S1E28 – During our stay at First World Hotel at Resorts World Genting in Malaysia we are exploring Genting Higlands, taking cable car Awana SkyWay, driving down to Chin Swee Caves temple with its 10 Chambers of Hell and visiting a farm where you can pick your own strawberries!

Awana SkyWay has only three stations: SkyAvenue station – all the way at the top from where we departed, Chin Swee station in the middle – the one we are passing by and Awana Station – at the foothills where we are heading to right now

The ride is relaxing & very enjoyable with breathtaking views along the way and many great picture opportunities, especially if the weather is clear and sunny. If you get lucky you can even spot some wildlife. We also got to appreciate the view of the Chin Swee Caves temple from afar, which we plan to visit later today.

Awana SkyWay is not the only cable car system in Genting Highlands. There’s also an alternative line known as Genting SkyWay. It is an older gondola lift system operating since 1997. Having 2 aerial lines allows guests to enjoy the cable car experience without interruptions year round, when either of the lines undergoes the maintenance.

The whole trip one way takes about 10 minutes. We arrived at SkyAvenue and our attention was drawn by the mesmerizing sight of what will become a SkySymphony. It is now one of Genting’s most unique sound & visual installations.

During our visit it was still in the midst of the construction, but it was exciting to learn about their plans and get a glimpse into the future of this fascinating Theatre of Lights and Sound. Huge LED screens wrapped around walls and pillars displaying beautiful footage of various themes leave unforgettable impression. Our favorite ones were nature inspired footage accompanied by ambient relaxing music. We could spend hours here. It was so incredibly peaceful and beautiful.

It only took us about 5 minutes to drive to Chin Swee Caves Temple. We had no problem finding the spot to park. It was very quiet and there were barely any people around.

The temple opened in 1995 and was founded by Lim Goh Tong who was a prominent wealthy Malaysian Chinese businessman & entrepreneur.

Chin Swee Caves Temple overlooks lush green slopes of a beautiful forest with a view of the winding road ascending to Genting Highlands.
One can experience the peacefulness of the environment while standing amidst the moving white clouds and feeling the gentle cool breeze.

Lim Goh Tong built this temple in honor of Reverend Chin Swee. Chin Swee has been referred to as a deeti in one of the provinces in China for his supernatural abilities to summon rain and drive away evil spirits.

The exterior wall of the temple carries many inscriptions that depict the life of the Reverend Chin Swee and his major charitable and supernatural works. The statue of Chin Swee is seated at the northern part of the main praying hall with his face looking south in accordance with feng shui principles. Chin Swee is usually depicted with a black face due to his miraculous survival from a fire with nothing more serious than soot blackened skin.

We continued exploring the grounds of the temple. We passed by the stunning nine storey Pagoda which is one of the most recognized landmarks of the temple and proceeded to walk through narrow & winding pathways.

Next we decided to explore the Journey to Enlightenment. It is a path that winds uphill featuring sculptures illustrating 10 Chambers of Hell in Chinese Buddhism a series of grottos cut into the hillside containing life-sized figurines depicting the gory scenes which many Chinese Buddhists believe await sinners after death.

To finish the fun filled day on a delicious note we decided to pick locally grown strawberries at Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm.

Strawberry picking is not cheap. We ended up paying around $8 for a small basket of strawberries that we picked. They tasted sweet and very fresh so it was worth it.  Make sure to plan your day accordingly as the farm is open only until 6:30pm daily and we almost missed the cut out time to come in.

On our drive back to the hotel, the rain had gotten even heavier. Driving in these conditions was not a picnic. Luckily, we made it back to the hotel safe and sound.
